Historical Information

Monroe previous hit County  next hit (West) Virginia was named in honor of previous hit James  next hit Monroe, fifth president of the United States. It was formed in 1799 from Greenbrier previous hit County  next hit, and in 1802 part of Botetourt was added. It joined other western Virginia previous hit counties  next hit to form the state of West Virginia in 1863.

This record was replevined by the Library of Virginia following the trial entitled Commonwealth of Virginia vs. Larry I. Vass heard in Henrico previous hit County  next hit Circuit Court in November 1972.
